Dr Vyas is my favorite optomistrist that I\'ve ever had. He has explained long time issues that I\'ve had with my eyes in a way that I understand and that no other doctor has bothered to do. He has also performed tests that no other doctor has bothered to do and as a result, i have recieved better quality care. Whenever I go to Dr Lu's office on Spring Garden Road there is one of his employees who screams "Where you glasses" in broken english whenever I walk into the office without my prescription glasses on. I have explained time and again to her about my eye watering whenever the wind hits my eyes. It's bad enough that tears are running down my face and I can't see where I'm going. Dr Lu and his staff couldn't adjust eyewear if there lives depended on it. I went there 3 times for an adjustment and the 4th time I went to the Mic Mac Mall office. Ihave been a patient of Dr. Nardone's group for the past 10 years. I don't think I've ever actually seen Dr. Nardone, but the other Optometrist I have seen have been very knowledgeable and through. I would recommend this practice for that reason. However, I am said to report that since they have combined their offices to Fennell Avenue, I have found their office staff less than courteous and at the bottom end of offering any type customer service. On my last visit, I decided to shop for my new glasses in their shop rather than go to my usual place. It was a huge mistake. I had to stand for the measurements for my bi-focals and was told my glasses would be ready in 7 days. After 7 days they called to let me know my glasses were ready. When I went to pick them up, again I had to stand for the fitting. I could not read a thing with the glasses. They had been improperly measured.They had to send them back to be corrected. I, my husband, my son, my daughter and her six children all see Dr. Lukenchuk. My mother saw him, until her death, two years ago. My sister, her four children and her two grandchildren see Dr. Lukenchuk. I have sent numerous other relatives, neighbours and friends to him and not once has anyone complained to me or left him for another optometrist. Dr. Lukenchuk goes out of his way to listen, help and treats his patients with kindness and care. He takes time to research new technologies and spends a tremendous amount of money on new equipment to make sure his patients always have the best care! The lady there was nice, but they were busy! The doc. gave me good advice about my eyes, he asked a lot about what I do. He took a close up picture of my eye, it was really cool! Dr Ozimok is amazing, and I find her staff quite entertaining! They probably have worked together for years which is why they are so comfortable in front of patients. Hi, I'm an accountant and have been to Dr. Leung's downtown office for over a year. In terms of staffing, I have to compliment their helpfulness and politeness towards clients. It is almost expected that most doctor's office require a wait, so his receptionist did let me know in advance. In terms of efficiency, Dr. Leung is very fast and very precise. He was able to help me with my vision needs based on my occupation. What I find at other places was that Drs often want to give me a higher prescription just to satisfy a customer's 'need'. I felt my prescription did not change, which means, I would not need stronger glasses each time. I'm confident to say Dr. Leung is a geninuely good doctor. I had a horrible experience with this doctor. The glasses he prescribed were too strong and I was suffering from headaches and pain in the eyes for half a year. I didn’t realize it was from the glasses though. He told me it was from me not wearing the glasses all the time. After a couple of days of migraine I finally switched to my old glasses and the pain was gone. I'm just glad I figured this out (which is supposed to be his job). Pleasant and professional, but my prescription was waaaay off. She refused to check the prescription as I'd had the glasses made elsewhere and she said the problem HAD to be fault of the lenses, not her prescription. I had the lenses checked by another lab and the lenses were bang on her prescription. Went back with that info and she then claimed my eyes must have been very different that one day, and that that often happens and she can't be held accountable for that! In 45 years of wearing glasses and at least six different optometrists, I've never had that trouble or been told that before. Her knowlege may be okay, but her willingness to deal with her human mistakes is very costly and damaging to the patient's eyes. I've gone elsewhere. Best eye doctor I have ever seen. I have RP and have had a very tough time with my specialist. When I talked to Dr. Garfunkel about it he found me a new specialist who immediately did more for me than the original doctor ever did. I have seen lots of eye doctors and I have to say, Dr. Garfunkel is the best by far. He is personable, proffessional, tells great stories and gives the best advice and information. I saw this Doc recently. I had a very bad experience. I had an exam which had to have been the fastest most rushed exam I have ever had. I got contacts also because of the good recommendatoins on this site. The vision with the contacts is so bad. I can't see with them at all. They are also not very comfortable and one also ripped in my eye!! I had to throw them out. I decided to go back to my old place to get contacts, and these ones worked instantly and I couldn't even feel them. After looking at the reviews on this site, I looked at the dates of the posts. Dr. King probably moved here from Michigan because they wouldn't let him practice their. He impresses you with all his words such as "the back of your eyes has millions and millions of nerve endings". The bottom line is he couldn't ever get my prescription right. I wasted so much time going back and forth to him. Walmart was getting testy with me coming back in to get my lenses changed every two weeks. He is even worse with contacts. He gave me some trials and they were so bad I could barely drive home. I just kept saying to myself it will get better, but 4 years of this and just did not. They deserve a good rating based on several factors. The staff is very helpful, taking responsibility seriously and making sure that the patients are well prepared for whatever they need. Even though the waiting times are horrid sometimes, Dr. Chow makes up for it by working weekends from morning to night. There's also a pager that you can use to reach him for emergencies. From personal experience, he would call back within 5 minutes. All this working isn't for money though. Compared to other optometrists who hike up the prices every year, he keeps the prices cheap and realistic. He was very cold and extremely rude. I was very nervous about the puff of air for the glacoma test and he treated me like I was a petulant child that he had no time for. When he gave me my very mild prescription for glasses, he made me feel like total crap for waiting so long to have my eyes checked and get glasses, saying I was a danger on the road, etc. My glasses are -0.5, and I have always passed the eye exam at the vehicle registry offices. Salespeople always say if you offend 1 customer, you need 10 great ones to make up for it. People who had a bad experience tend to shout the loudest. I have very bad myopia very early & over the years, I have seen countless optometrists both in Canada and in Europe. Dr Chow is very jovial. He has extensive knowledge of his field and has never stopped learning and enhancing his knowledge. I hear in the office that he will be attending so and so lecture all the time. He cares more about his patients than I have ever known any eye doctor to care. He provides his pager for emergency 24/7. For the amount of time he puts into his work, I cannot say the fee he charges is too much by any stretch of the imagination. It is true the wait can be long, but the reason is clear when it is your turn. Dr Chow will spend as much time with you as necessary about any concerns, never caring about the time outside of the office. I don't have any problems with unanswered questions. I was a walk in patient last week since this place is so close to the university. The office is really nice (inside specs on bloor) opposite of the Bata Shoe Museum. Dr. Andrew Leung took the time to ask about my previous eye examination history and showed me how various tests can help prevent eye diseases like glaucoma, etc. I think he is a very professional doctor and made me understand the importance of regular checkups. He is better than my old optometrist and I definitely will see him again. The wait was not too long, about 20 minutes so I am very satisfied overall. Dr. Ozimok is an amazing eye doctor. She is friendly and patient and I have no complaints for her! I am so relieved to see others share my views about the front desk! They are so short and disorganized. I recently ordered contacts. I ordered them a week before Christmas as my last pair randomly ripped. They told me they couldn't get them before xmas but I should get them by Jan. Well I never got a phone call back! End of Januaray, my mother tells me they had called the day earlier to inform me that they actually could not order my contacts because my perscription was out dated. Well, with the weird shifts I work, I couldn' book an appointment so I decided to wait. Then a MONTH later, someone calles, snooty!, and says they have had my pair of contacts waiting for months now and are wondering if I plan to pick them up!! I couldn't believe it! Dr. Monea is quirky and unlike any doctor I have been to. (bizarre fake nails, wacky hair do and wired clothes) She repeats herself constantly, which gets annoying after a while. I feel she is in it for the money. I bought a pair of progressive transition glasses from her office and I feel that I paid a lot more there than I would have at an optical outlet. She wants me to come in 6 months to check for a supposed cataract "to keep an eye on it", but of course I will be charged for the visit. Last year she told my teenage son he needed to see a specialist for an eye condition, but by the time the appointment came, the eye had healed up on its own. I agree the doctor never answers the question, What can I do to improve my eyes?. He is pessimistic and doesn't offer any nutritional diet or suggestions to prevent one's eyes from getting worse. If you have a strong prescription, i.e. myopia, he says, "You have bad eyes". His office does a lot of testing, but the results are rarely explained indepth. You might get a quick it looks "Ok" in particular when he photographs your eyeball and you see a wonderful sphere of your eye and he doesn't explain what he sees to you, whether good or bad. Ended up charging me $75 for a box of 30 Focus Dailies Lenses (can get the same lenses at Costco for half that price) and did not follow up with the fit of said lenses only had receptionist contact me to pick them up along with a trial box of the same lenses and was told that if I didn't like the trial lenses then return the 30 day box for a refund. I thought the whole point of him being an eye doctor was for him to see how the lenses fit. I want an Optometrist that actually examines the fitting of my contact lenses. I visited Dr. P.A. Spear a few times for various optometry issues and though he is knowledgeable I found his personality somewhat arrogant and borderline abrasive for my liking. His front desk office staff has changed over time and unfortunately the new girls there appear to be very inexperienced. I required a Field Test for a potential glaucoma scare at Sunnybrook Hospital that they completely forgot to make for me. I finally contacted Spear's office directly to ask what the status was and they apologized and said the appointment fell between the cracks. When they called me back later the same day with the details of my Field Test appointment, I then discover they made it with an independent Ophthalmologist and not Sunnybrook. Argh! Back to square one and two more days of waiting for another error to be corrected. Due to the disappointment in service, I have changed Optometrists and am very happy with the person I am using now. Although she has a pleasant and friendly manner she does possess another side. Once when taking my teenage daughter for her checkup, I inquired about contacts for her (my daughter's suggestion). I wanted to know generally what the cost would be as this was a luxary in my books. After hearing her cost, I politely said "Thank you, I'll keep that in mind but I'd like to shop around and think about it". With that, she became incessed and very insulted. She told me that if I go to some where else, my daughter would not be getting the best care and then she went to the receptionist and told her to make a note on my daughter's file that there will be an additional surcharge of $25.00 on her next check up. I asked why and she said that now she won't know if I go someone where else and if she gets contacts that will affect her next check up. I still am confused on that. I've known this doctor for at least 5-6 years and used to visit him when he had a little kiosk inside another store on Broadway. When he didn't have his own practice and wasn't selling contacts or glasses, he was great. Once he moved out and opened up his own practice and shop, he became a business man first, and a doctor second. There is no doubt that his RXs are always right, but in the end all he wants is your money. When you are in for an exam, he will try to sell you contacts, solutions, glasses, cleaners and everything. He even sells his samples. What doctor sells free samples? If you plan on getting your contacts and glasses elsewhere, I would recommend him only for his exams. She is very thorough and takes the time to explain. She has supplied different brands of contact lenses to try free of charge. She has also provided quotes for frames that I like so I can do comparison shopping for myself. Typically I buy there because the prices are competitive and the service is gret. I agree the doctor never answers the question, What can I do to improve my eyes?. He is pessimistic and doesn't offer any nutritional diet or suggestions to prevent one's eyes from getting worse. If you have a strong prescription, i.e. myopia, he says, "You have bad eyes". His office does a lot of testing, but the results are rarely explained indepth. You might get a quick it looks "Ok" in particular when he photographs your eyeball and you see a wonderful sphere of your eye and he doesn't explain what he sees to you, whether good or bad. My daughter had a small pimple on her eye, she quickly looked it up, because it is rare, and reassured me that it was not a problem. And infact it did go away on its own. Dr. Crust is the best optometrist I have ever been to. He takes his time when assessing your perscription and unlike other optometrists I have been to, does not get annoyed when asked to repeat the last lense. I recently went back to him because my vision in my right eye had decreased rapidly. He was concerned about a bit of scarring he saw in my right eye and set up an appointment for me with a specialist. This specialist did not even mention the scarring; he told me that I had the start of a cataract but was very minor and asked me to call back and set up an appointment next spring. I was not happy with his diagnosis and went back to Dr. Crust. He referred me to another specialist and this one did see the scarring and diagnosed me with corneal edema. I won't go into the rest as this is about Dr. Crust and his kind, caring, and empathetic nature. I would not feel that I was exaggerating if I called him the best optometrist in Winnipeg. Agree with most people here that Dr. Book gives excellent care, is knowledgeable. I have to agree with other folks here though that they do push the Sales too much, and that would be ok, if the optical store was any good, which it is not. VERY high turnover in staff, staff who disagree with each other in front of the customer. I bought my progressive lenses there and the optical store staff kept arguing over what frames I should have. The end product was frames with lenses that kept falling out. They were so casual about it, telling me it was the lab's fault, blah blah. I paid 1800.00 for frames and glass Nikon lenses, could the optical shop take a little more interest? The last straw came when I went for an adjustment. The staff person in the optical shop dropped one of my very expensive glass lenses on the floor. Luckily it didn't break but she said, 'oh, I didn't know it was glass. hah hah' Well, I thought, you won't get another chance because I'm going someplace else next time. Excellent. His staff is wonderful! I would recommend him in a flash! When I developed allergies, i went to numerous different doctors, hoping to get an answer. I went through around 10 different types of eye drops in a week. I had serious damage due to the wrong medication. I was driving by with my mom because i was not attending school at that time and she said why don't we stop by and see if we can make a appnt with him for your eyes? Dr. Burnard comes to Regina a couple times a month & I'm glad that we found him! I used him for myself in October & then when my four year old was needing an appt. we were able to get him in ASAP on Saturday (April 26). I think it's great that he takes walk-ins, especially since I wasn't going to be able to get my son in until June & he does need glasses. He is patient, explains things & is willing to answer any questions. His wife is a huge asset to his profession - she was amazing with my son & got down on the floor with him & explained what he (my son) was going to do when he met with Dr. Burnard. Also, an older gentleman came in around the same time - he seemed a bit confused but she helped him through his form & was very kind to him. They are a great team. Dr. Kelly is an excellent optometrist. However one on the eyewear technicians was very unprofessional. When I had a broken frame replaced (30 minutes),using my existing lenses, she reversed the lenses (L&R). Vision was almost impossible and she advised that it will take a couple of weeks to get used to the new frame. When I questioned how my vision could suddenly become so poor, she did some test and confirmed that the lenses were indeed correct and she reaffirmed that they did not belong to someone else. The next day after demanding a more thorough examination of why my vision became so poor following a 30 minute frame replacement, she finally caught her mistake. She interchanged the lenses but did not appologize for her mistake. She didn't accept responsibility either. I did not complain, but I will shop elsewhere for eyeglass frames next time. Dr. Yale's expertise is extensive and wider than I would have expected for an optometrist. A year ago I had a "floater" than was crossing my line of vision. He saw me right away and thought it best that I be referred to an ophthalmologist who specializes in retinas jsut to be sure there was no problem. When I saw the ophthalmologist he detected a small retinal tear and repaired it that day. My mother lost the site of one eye due to a retinal tear so I was very grateful that Dr. Yale was able to prevent that in my case because of his attentiveness. I would recommend Dr. Thatcher to everyone. When my son was 2 1/2, he came with me to my eye apt. he was very curious about all of the equipment. Dr. Thatcher asked if we could stay for a bit as they recommend that children have thier first eye apt at age 3 , and he was so close to 3 and so interested, it would be a good time. So we did, and am I ever glad, as Dr. Thatcher discovered that my son had a significant eye problem that needed to be corrected . He kept close contact with us, in regards to my son's vision, even writing up a report, without charge, for his teachers when he began school. Dr. Thatcher also recommended to see my daughter earlier than usual, as this eye condition is hereditary, and the earlier it can be caught the better. He continues to make sure that the kids are doing well, he speaks with them directly about their life activities, and has answered all of my questions thoroughly. Dr. Dornn is the best optometrist that I have seen. He takes the time to explain my condition to me and I learn something everytime I have an appointment. I think it is very important for patients to know about their condition so they can have an active role in the treatment decisions. Overall, excellent experience. I have not really compared cost of glasses between places, but I have had a bad experience at another place (they gave me the prescription that was "closest to" the one I needed which did not help my vision anyways, whereas Dr. Dornn's office gave me exactly what was correct for me). Dr. Martineau is caring, patient, and knowledgeable. She will take the time to explain things to her patients, and if you have problem eyes, you will most likely learn more about what is wrong than you have ever known before. She is the only optometrist I have met who was able to transition me properly into a new prescription of contacts after I had been greatly overprescribed elsewhere. Expect to be in her office for a long time, but if you need or want the quality of care she offers, it is well worth it(it is too bad that she has the most uncomfortable waiting room chairs I've ever sat on, however!). I have not paid for optometry services elsewhere, and after going to an opthalmologist where services were free, I found the prices to be a bit of a shock, though I have no idea how they compare to others in her field. When I was experiencing health problems, and was concerned about my eyes, he saw me, and tested my site without a full exam charge. He was very knowledgeable about everything, including how my blood sugars and impaired glucose tollerance and how they were effecting my eye site. Have been visiting Dr. Morrison for at least 10 years, and have found the service to be good. Although, the wait can be long during the weekdays. Last time I went I was scheduled to meet with Dr. Ann-Marie Stewart who had provided me with much better service and explanations than I've ever received from Dr. Morrison. Unfortunately, I find the prices slightly expensive. A 19-39yr eye exam costed me $110, retinal exam was $35, and a year's worth of contacts was $400--a $30 rebate may drop it to $370 after 6 months, in the mail. I have been seeing Dr. Carey for many years. I find him to be very thorough with the eye examinations and he is generally very pleasant. I really do enjoy coming to my eye appointments here. Although wainting time is a little long or behind, he is such a great doctor. He is very friendly and smiles quite a lot, I enjoy our conversations. Knows a lot about my eye problems and how best to approach them. Very knowledgeable about cataracts and that my hearing problem is associated with that. Gave me good information and eye tests. Staff was very polite and friendly. All I can say that in the 7 years that I have brought my son to her, she has been very friendly and helpful. Of course she will direct you to the section where they sell you the glasses but when I'm asking for the prescription they have never given me hassles to pass them to me. Some people might not want to bother going somewhere else and are happy if they can buy them right there. That is the choice they give you and all we have to ask is for the prescription. I walked into her clinic and her staff was so very helpful and arranged for an appointment the following Monday. Dr. Martineau is a young-ish doctor and serves patients in both French and English. She is extremely thorough and takes her time when seeing you -- with all the tests an annual exam can take 2.5 hours or more! Her office seems well-equipped with all the latest technology and she seems very knowledgeable about new trends and advances. On the downside, her practice seems very business oriented. Even though there are signs in her office saying they have a fair pricing policy and welcome questions, she gets kind huffy when politely asked about what her extra fees cover. She always seems to be pushing new and more expensive kind of contact lenses on her patients and charges a $75 fee for "recommending" a lens and giving you a sample pair -- even though the manufacturers provide these samples free of charge. Her office claims contacts and glasses sold in the office's boutique are offered "at cost", but they don't tell you a "diagnostic fee" is hidden in the total.
